In normal use and maintenance, two problems are often encountered: the first is that the clutch is not completely disconnected. The problem caused by this situation is that the gear cannot be shifted normally. The cause of this situation is mostly due to the improper adjustment of the clutch wire, which can generally be eliminated by tightening it. The second is the incomplete clutch coupling. The main problem caused by this situation is that the engine power transmission is affected, and the motorcycle cannot run, which is what we usually call "lost turn". The main reason for this situation is usually two points: First, the clutch wire is too tight, resulting in the active and passive friction plates can not be fully integrated; Second, the friction plates are seriously worn. The first solution is to adjust the clutch cable, and the second is to replace the friction plate.

In summary, there are two points that need to be paid attention to in the use of the clutch: one is not to leave it in a disengaged state for a long time; the other is that the clutch wire should be moderately tight.

The half-coupling state of the clutch generally appears in the starting phase. In order to ensure a smooth start, we usually have to release the clutch relatively slowly. At this time, the clutch will be in the half-coupling state. The half-engaged state has the greatest wear on the clutch, which is much more serious than the wear in the disconnected state. The significance of knowing this is that apart from having to put the clutch in a semi-engaged state for the stability of the motorcycle at the start, we should try to avoid putting it in this state as much as possible.

Use and maintenance of clutch

Motorcycle clutches can be divided into two types according to the cooling medium. One is oil-cooled, which is called a wet clutch. Its cooling oil does not protect the friction plates, but the power transmission is smooth and soft. Its advantage is long service life. Generally, no failure occurs unless the operating rules are violated and the clutch is often operated in a half-clutch state. The other uses air to cool the clutch, called the dry clutch. In use, the clutch is required to be able to easily engage and disengage with the power, and to work in a semi-clutch state for a short period of time, and the clutch should not overheat.

Clutch inspection

Check the gap: Use your middle finger and index finger to gently hold and turn the clutch handle to check and adjust the gap. The stroke of the end of the grip should be 15mm-20mm, and the root should be about 3mm. Different models have different clutch clearances and should be adjusted according to the instructions. Experience shows that the end of the grip should have a minimum stroke of 1 mm. If the clutch clearance is too large, the separation will not be complete; and if the clearance is too small, it will cause the clutch to slip.
