Shock absorber is an important part of motorcycle. It not only plays a buffering role, but also maintains the grip of the tire. A good shock absorber also plays a great role in the balance of the vehicle!

1. Introduction to the function and structure of the front shock absorber

① Shock absorber function

The front shock absorber elastically connects the frame and the front wheel together, and uses a buffer spring and a damping mechanism to effectively buffer the impact from the ground. The excellent damping system can keep the vehicle stable, ensure operating comfort, and bring a pleasant riding experience to the driver

② Shock absorber structure

The front shock absorber is mainly composed of fork rod, bottom tube, buffer spring, piston rod, oil seal, dust cover and other parts, with damping oil sealed inside

③ Working principle of shock absorber

When the shock absorber spring is compressed, the damping oil flows through the free valve and the oil return hole; when the spring rebounds, the free valve closes, and the damping oil only flows through the damping hole, thus playing the role of restraining the spring rebound. The damping spring and the damping system work well together, playing the role of damping and cushioning

2. The fault diagnosis of oil leakage of the front shock absorber and rust of the fork lever

Judgment of oil leakage fault

Damping oil leakage affects the appearance of the entire vehicle, and serious oil leakage failures will affect the performance of the shock absorber. During use, the shock absorber should be regularly checked for oil leakage. When it is found that there are abnormal oil stains on the appearance of the shock absorber, it can be judged and dealt with according to the following steps

Steps for determining oil leakage:

Ⅰ. Wipe clean the fork lever, dust cover, cylinder body and other positions and press again more than 10 times to check whether the fork lever oil ring has changed

a. If the oil ring is lightened or there is no oil ring, it can be preliminarily judged that there is no oil leakage and continue riding and observation

b. If the oil ring shows no signs of lightening, repeat step Ⅰ and perform step Ⅱ inspection after no effect

Ⅱ. Use a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry open the dust cover, and check if there is any trace of oil on the lip of the oil seal

a. If there is no oil stains on the lips, wipe off the fork rod and dust cover, restore the assembly and continue riding observation

b. If there are oil stains on the lips, wipe off the oil seal lip, fork rod, and dust cover, then resume assembly and continue riding observation

Ⅲ. After processing steps Ⅰ and Ⅱ, check again after 200 kilometers of riding. If there is still obvious oil ring on the surface of the fork lever (there is a downward flow trend), it can be judged that there is an oil leakage fault.
